Now CHIC has grown into a business that gets bigger and bigger with each event. The events that Seerose and her team put on always amaze as each one gets better and better.

Christmas Expo 2011

December 3rd-18th, 2011

Marking its 1st year in SL, The 2011 Christmas Expo is coming to town! In support of Relay For Life of Second Life and the American Cancer Society, the Christmas Expo will open on December 3rd, 2011 at 9am slt and will close on December 18th at 9pm slt.

A Christmas wonderland, spanning four SL regions, will set the scene for guests and shoppers, vendors and entertainers. SL residents will be able to find Christmas gifts, spend a romantic evening in the Holiday Ballroom with a sweetheart, or visit Santa and have pictures taken.

Residents can attend one of the many events:

SL Idol - An annual singing competition that will take place every year at The Christmas Expo, this contest will involve rounds of performances by some of SL’s great musicians.

The Avi Choice Awards - The Avi Choice Awards ~ the annual awards presentation recognizing the people and talent behind SL’s amazing creations, completely chosen and voted on by SL residents.

Amazing Race - Two member teams will race across the SL grid collecting specific hunt items, completing challenges and competing to be the last team standing.

Christmas Parties - Visitors can schedule their Christmas Parties at Expo. DJs can be booked or bring your own and the scenery has already been set for a fabulous and festive Holiday party.

The Breedables Pet Championship - hosted this year by the Breeder's Burough!

Auction/Raffle - Many amazing items will be available for auction and raffle from some of SL's best creators. 100% of the proceeds from the Expo's auctions and raffles will go to Relay For Life of Second Life.

Shopping - In addition to enjoying the many events, activities and features of the Christmas Expo, visitors can get a head start on their Christmas shopping at the more than 70 shops.

Live Music/DJ - Entertainment will feature many of SL's top performers, singers, djs, and hosts throughtout the Expo. See the website for dates and times.

Christmas Expo 2011's design and construction is generously provided by SL’s incredible builder, Kayle Matzerath of Garden of Dreams. Kayle’s talent brings amazing dream-like settings to the virtual world and he is bringing his style and talent to Christmas Expo. Kayle was the Relay For Life Event Day 2011 Designer Sim Award winner, as well. Kayle's holiday builds will provide excellent photo ops for those memory-making photos.

But Surreal LeShelle has done such an amazing job of providing us ladies with some of the best costumes on the grid under one roof.

I first came to Second Life® through a friend in 2006, and I quickly became addicted to the many fascinating sims, builds, and creations that surround the grid. For the first couple of years, I made friends, went to clubs, and explored sims; however, my favorite part of Second Life was seeing what kind of clothes I could find, actually put on together, and what combinations of looks I was able to create using items from various designers. After all, at that time, there was not an infinite number of attachment options, tattoo layers, alpha layers, and let's be honest, not a whole lot of men's clothes to choose from that had any quality to them at all. This love of fashion led me, after much deliberation, to join the modeling world of Second Life.

As a designer, Faint Paulse is known for her creative prowess and creating exceptional and sometimes even unconventional designs. She challenges the notions of what is beautiful and chic. When you hear the name Ladies Who Lunch, the first things that should come to mind are carefully detailed and realistic textures, bold colors, wickedly sinful shoes, and, of course, high quality styles. Paulse is a talented designer who could just as easily be creating art as fashion. When asked about her inspirations for designing in SL, Paulse simply replies: “Anything and everything. It depends. In the beginning, I did a lot of custom work, so I was just making things to fill orders. It began monopolizing my time, and I wanted to do more of what I wanted to do, so I slowly got away from it. Now, I flip through fashion magazines when I'm in line at the supermarket or online. Sometimes it's a photo, sometimes it's a shape or a concept. It doesn't matter.”

R.icielli is one of the most famous stores in Second Life® and it is present in many projects and events related to virtual fashion, mainly because their products are so versatile and varied enough to please even the most diverse types of taste. There are customers of all types, from the most fashionable fashionistas who like to produce photographic essays, to the most basic consumers that are buying just for daily use. “That makes us very happy, because it shows how much people love and approve of our work,” says Fhara Ricielli, owner and designer of R.icielli. “To be honest, we did not have a target audience exactly. What we wanted was to get the majority of residents to know and love our store...and we did.”

LEA Granted the Annual Use of 20 Sims for Promotion of SL Art

Today. The Linden Endowment for the Arts (LEA) announced that Linden Lab and their stockholders have agreed to the use of twenty sims to be used for the Promotion of the Arts in SL which could be Visual, Performance Art, or Scripts according to Bryn Oh, spokesman for the LEA.

The LEA consists of Prominent Artists such as Bryn Oh and DanCoyote Antonelli and others. The twenty will be made available for an annual period to promote the Arts and applications will be due by November 1, 2011 for consideration to present during the annual period.

It's no secret that my first ever real "job" in Second Life® was at Club Habibi, a Middle Eastern club that is still around. Club Habibi opened its doors in June of 2007, when I was barely a month old, and I worked there as a belly dancer and hostess for about five months. I loved that job because it was so much fun; I got to meet interesting people and even picked up some sweet Arabic words from the people that visited. But my most favorite thing about that job was the uniform. I had to wear silks: beautiful, colorful and oh-so-sexy.

One certain thing in both our real and second lives is that change is a certainty, and today, we at AVENUE Magazine are embracing something new with the stepping down of Isadora Fiddlesticks, who has served our publication as Managing Editor, and also with the promotion of our new Editor in Chief, Sensuous Soulstar. Isadora has been an important part of the AVENUE family for several years, and she leaves her position having made many significant contributions for which we are so very grateful. We wish her much happiness and good fortune on her journey to come, but are pleased to announce that she will remain a part of the AVENUE family and may return to contribute again in the future.

AVENUE is pleased to announce the well-deserved promotion of Sensuous Soulstar to Editor in Chief. Sensuous came to AVENUE two years ago bringing with her a plethora of real life and virtual world experience in journalism and management. She began as a writer and was soon promoted to senior writer, and most recently, she has excelled in her role as General Manager. Sensuous possesses a real world communications and publishing background, having journalism experiences that include working as part of the newspaper staff during her university years at Howard University, as well as performing as a regular contributor to the Law Review during her law school years. Currently employed in the legal field, Sensuous enjoys the creative opportunities presented to her through her work with AVENUE Magazine. When asked about her future plans at AVENUE Magazine, Sensuous offered this: "As for my plans, I intend to continue the outstanding legacy that AVENUE has created. We will continue to provide readers with the most current trends in fashion, the most talented artists in SL and RL, the best places to call home, and of course continue to salute those that are in SL for a higher cause. I will continue to keep an open rapport with the staff and hope to remain a liaison between the staff and management, as that's been one of my favorite aspects of my work as General Manager. I don't know what the future holds for me, but I do know that the future looks incredibly blessed for AVENUE, and I'm grateful to be a part of that future."

There are many sims in-world; some with heavenly scenes and tranquil gardens, and then there are those that resemble a horror film, such as Dance Macabre, that would bring nightmares to even the most jaded resident of Second Life®. Bryn Oh’s Anna’s Many Murders ranks in the second category. Not only does it chronicle a young woman’s descent into insanity, it also strips away the protective cocoon that the 21st Century man has constructed for himself in the form of smart phones, tablets, and other mobile devices with their myriad of applications that immerse the individual into his own private world, ignoring the collective world around him. I spoke with Bryn Oh about the sim and the grim message that it sends to man, and the potential loss of humanity that having mobile technology and programs to seal one off from reality.

When I visit someone’s home in Second Life®, I almost always see something that I love; from a picture hanging on the wall, to the home itself. Renting or buying, there are way too many choices to deal with. Since my first days in-world, I have fallen in love with SL™ homes. The possibilities are endless. And for me, even though it seems overwhelming to find the right place to live or the right piece of furniture to complement a home, I can never have too many options. Buying a house or trying out furniture is like a mini SL adventure in itself. Sometimes you know what you want, other times you have no clue, but along the way you discover great textures, clean lines, and amazing details. Builder Froukje Hoorenbeek of Dutchie Furniture fell in love with homes and building herself, and has since created a brand that delivers inspiration and amazingly realistic furniture and homes within SL.

According to Rosalie Oldrich, Exceutive Director of the Virtual Museum, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation revoked the licensing agreement with the Virtual Museum in December 2010 for use of the name. The Virtual Museum is a virtual showcase of architecture from different historical periods, such as the recreation of Monticello, the home designed and built by the third President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, as well as building styles from the last century and even futuristic concepts by contemporary architects such as I.M. Pei and others.

In all my years on the grid, I have always been impressed by the kindness and social consciousness of residents in Second Life®. Organizations such as the American Cancer Society that has held Relay For Life events since 2005 prove that spirit wholeheartedly. Other forms of philanthropy have abounded in-world, but as of May 2011, there is an organization that provides grants and other forms of philanthropy to those who have ideas and causes that would benefit the society that SL™ has created. That organization is the Avatar Charitable Trust, which was founded by Chuk and Lillie Edman.

Over the last several years, Agnes Finney, the creator of My Precious Design House, has established herself as one of the most sought after designers when it comes to beautifully-made, elegant designs in ladies formalwear and cocktail designs in the Second Life® grid. In 2009, Ms. Finney began the My Precious Queen contest, an opportunity for individuals who embody the ideals of the brand to compete to become the face of My Precious, and the royal ambassador for the design house to serve as a representative on the catwalk, in print advertising campaigns, and at various public events. My Precious is known for charm, class, and sophistication in design, so the one selected as My Precious Summer Queen this coming June will be chosen because she shares those qualities as well as a flair for unique and refined styling that enhances the beauty of My Precious designs.

The current contest round will culminate in the selection of the My Precious Summer Queen 2011, a lucky lady who will have quite a journey ahead of her. In addition to the prestigious title, the winner will receive cash prizes, a voucher for the AVENUE Models Academy, sponsored gifts and gift cards, and a photo shoot for AVENUE Magazine. She will also have the opportunity to serve as the hostess of Behind the Throne, (link: http://mypreciousroyalty.blogspot.com) a blog in which she will highlight My Precious designs and events from her reign.

AVENUE is honored to announce this year's Relay For Life, AVENUE of Life, kick-off event "Couture of Hope". Last year our tribute to Alexander McQueen raised over $2,000 usd for Keep A Child Alive and this year we hope break that record for Relay for Life.

With 40 participating designers, fashion bloggers, sponsors, special guests and the dedication of AVENUE staff - "Couture of Hope" is a tribute to the survivors and champions who battle cancer everyday. We challenged this years participating designers to design a couture piece that embodies their vision for a season of hope. We are so thankful for each and every designer participation and know this will be an outstanding tribute for RFL.

The, May 1st, event will open with a preview show of the 40 exclusive designs, followed by an After Party, Date Auction and special guests appearance from Dazzlers Inc. The AVENUE at GOL sim has now been closed to the public in anticipation to Sunday's events, and we hope you join us to Relay.
